The 50, 000 metric tons of the fertilizer will cost the state five billion naira.
Making the disclosure yesterday during a press briefing at the Sokoto state government house, commissioner for finance, Saidu Umar divulged that the fertilizers is part of the federal government’s agriculture intervention programme.
Saidu added that, what remained of greater relief for them was not simply that it was a special intervention but that the federal government is not putting any stiff repayment measure on the state.
The commissioner insisted that, the FG fertilizer intervention to the state seems to be free for them.
“The federal government has resolved to make fertilizer available to interested states and Sokoto has considered taking the federal government intervention on fertilizer.
“The state will benefit 50, 000 metric tons of fertilizer at the total cost of five billion naira only.
“The fertilizer costs 5000 per bag. What is of great interest to us mostly is the fact that the federal government is not asking the state to commence payment immediately.
“As far as the state is concerned, it’s like the fertilizer is coming to us for free, hence the FG is giving these fertilizers to us unconditionally as a loan but without stringent conditions or modalities attached”
